LOA HEY Homes – 109 St & 71 Ave

2025Limit of Approach (LOA)Residential Development Support

Limit of Approach (LOA) assessment and engineering clearance verification for new residential development near primary overhead infrastructure.

Project Details

At the request of the developer, EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. (EDTI) conducted a detailed LOA engineering review to evaluate the safe proximity of existing 15kV overhead primary lines near 10926 – 71 Avenue NW. Span 1 (EP62757 to EP36163) was analyzed using CSA C22.3 standards to calculate wire swing and sag. Results confirmed the minimum horizontal limit of approach at 3.8m and vertical clearance at 6.9m above grade. EPCOR emphasized the need for alternative building methods or redesign to avoid the LOA zone and maintain OH&S-compliant distances for future access and maintenance.

Outcomes

  • Completed CSA-compliant swing and sag calculations for 15kV #2 ACSR span
  • Confirmed vertical clearance of 6.9m and horizontal LOA of 3.8m from property line
  • Ensured AEUC and OHS LOA requirements met for worker and equipment safety
  • Enabled informed design decisions for residential construction near overhead assets
  • Provided actionable EPCOR-approved data for permit planning and coordination
